TECH BIT

If your interested in the technical side of photography like me, then you may enjoy this page. I use only the best equipment possible from the Canon Professional range including the latest 7D2 and 5D3 SLR digital bodies and a comprenhensive range of L series professional lenses.

Having the best tools for the job is a must for me. Not just because I need reliable equipment, but because I want to provide imagery that is of the best optical quality possible and Canon equipment gives me these results.

For aviation and motorsport events I rely on the amazing 500m f4 lens a lot of the time and coupled with the latest 7D2 body gives me the reach needed to capture fast jets as they perform high speed displays or capture race action for those hard to photograph circuits such as Silverstone where access is very restricted. These big lenses do get heavy after a long days shooting though so I add in support in the form of either a Gitzo GT3542XLS carbon tripod with Black Widow gimble head or a 3 Legged Thing carbon monopod.

For my other photography work including commercial and weddings Canon still provides the solution, just in a smaller and lighter selection of lenses. A favourite combination would have to be the Canon 5D3 body for its magnificent full frame images paired with the 24-70mm f2.8 and 70-200mm f2.8. This lightweight combination is all you need to capture great wedding images all through a day and enables you to move freely around without being weighted down by kit.

Editing in Adobe Lightroom CC

With all these trips out into the field, transporting this kit has to be done with care and requires bags or cases that offer protection to the camera and lenses from whatever the conditions are. If travelling light with just one body and a couple of lenses, I will use the LowePro Vertex 100 backpack. This pack is comfortable on your back all day long and has plenty of space for camera kit,  a waterproof or fleece and some food and drink. When doing sports events and air shows I now use a slightly modified Peli 5010 hard case, these are just indestructible and double up as a seat or step when a bit of extra height is required.

Everything I photograph is shot in RAW to enable the best possible final results, with editing taking place Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop CC, loaded onto an Apple iMac 27 inch desktop computer. This all combines to give me a setup I feel is the best possible so you can be sure of getting great results every time.
